Senior Design Team sddec20-05: An Advanced Networking Outreach Activity for Kids
Project Background
This project is intended as an ISU outreach activity to teach students how mobile ad-hoc networks work, such as those used by smartphones. It will feature a set of portable nodes that students will be able to position throughout a school building or an outdoor space. The nodes will connect to one another within a limited wireless range. Some of the nodes will feature cameras or other sensors (power consumption, battery level, or temperature). From a central display, students will be able to see the data (such as video from the nodes) being transmitted through the network. The students will work together to build a reliable network over a wide area. In the process, they will encounter and learn about issues that affect wireless networks, such as interference and wireless multipathing.
